Sheltie Dreams

Ahhh…it’s (much too) early on Thursday morning, December 5, in Canberra, the capital city of Australia. Yep, I’m on the road again. Flying to Australia might sound exciting, but it’s a loooong flight. On Monday evening, I flew to Los Angeles, where I had about an hour to walk over to another gate about 2 miles away (just kidding…it only seemed like it) for my Sydney flight. The flight to Sydney was not really painful, but it gets pretty crowded back in coach on a 14-hour ride. Happily, I lucked out and the middle seat next to me was empty, so I had a little bit of room to move around in. And, best of all, I was able to sleep on the flight!

Well, I needed the sleep, so that was good. But I dreamed of Isaac, whom readers of this blog know reached the end of his life less than two weeks ago. I really miss that beautiful boy! For the last many months, he wasn’t really actively interactive (you know what I mean!), but he was always happy to see me or Barbara when we’d walk over to him to scratch his ears or give him a hug. Yes, I know – he lived to a very ripe old age; not many Shelties live to become nearly 16 years old. But that also meant that he lived with me for a huge fraction of my life. And I miss him. I was glad that the dreams were happy ones and that I didn’t wake up all depressed and crying (which I have done many times when I dream of Merlin or of Annie).

Still, it would be much nicer if I were at home with Barbara to talk to her at times like that.

Oh, well, at least work/travel keeps me (mostly) off the streets and out of trouble. Plus, as I keep telling Sly and Star, it brings home the kibble.

On this day..

Ahhhh, Sounds to me like he was popping in to say he misses you too but won’t be far. I miss all my old kids too. Cory Jean was 17, Sylvester 17, Sadie was just shy of 17, Presley was just a year younger than his mom Sadie.I could go on, but I won’t. Still too little time. I told the vet (who insisted the Science Diet was better than the Pro Plan), that after eating that lousy food for 17 years,it finally killed them! I miss them every day. I hear you friend.
