shelties are the only dog breed without a size classification. however u can find size charts that help you figure out with ur dogs height and weight if its concidered a “toy” “small toy” or “teacup” my 1 yr old sheltie hasnt grown since 4 mnths and she is about 7 pounds. extreamly small or large shelties occur when the breeder doesnt pay attention to the parents weights. breeding to shelties with similar weights can result in that. at 7 pnds my girl is concidered a “toy”

I have to say that just going on weight is not an accurate way to measure a sheltie whether standard or toy size and the size of the bone mass must be taken into account that is why shelties are measured at their shoulder blades the smallest sheltie I have ever seen height wise is 8″ tall!!!! he weighs 8lbs but that is because he has a very moderate and well built bone, and often times we are seeing more and more mixed breed dogs being called toy or mini shelties when they are chi mixes, pom mixes, and pap mixes along with rat terrier mixes and other crosses so unless you have DNA verification that the dogs are purebred and really under 8″ tall and 8 lbs don’t be suprised if you have a miced breed.

I raise toy and mini shelties! I fell into the tiny ones after purchasing a female ‘who didn’t get large enough to show’. She is my baby – 12″ tall. After people went so crazy over her I got interested in finding another, and so it began. Now she is our largest sheltie, smallest adult being almost 1O” and 8lbs. I raise a few litters each year in my home. And we take ALL of our shelties everywhere with us! The smaller size makes them super easy to travel with! My husband got me a sheltie two years ago, she weighs 4.5 lbs. now and is too cute. I’m convinced she is the world smallest sheltie.

I have been searching on line for people who have mini shelties.

We have a 10 month old – appropriately named “TeaCup”. She is all of 8 pounds and will not grow to be any larger than she is currently.

I am glad to see that there are other minis out there.

Wow, I never thought I’d see a photo of a Sheltie smaller than mine. I have a 10 year old female named Sassafras that weighs in at just 12 lbs. Our vet said she’s never seen one as tiny as mine.

You all can just be jealous. He is every bit of energy and personality. He is right up to 8 lbs which is where he’ll stay. Thanks for the photo’s!! Even better is seeing him next to the (oversized) pappilon and being overshadowed by him. Hold your thumb up, that’s how big his legs are.

I have always wanted a pocket Sheltie,I always end up with Shetland Pony Shelties. How cute.
