Stoked with Sheltie

My parents bought me a Sheltie for my first birthday.Chiffon or Chif for short was a perfect sable girl. When I was in 7th grade me and my dad mowed the yard.We even took down the boards from the low spot under the gate and mowed under it .When we were done I went to put them back up.That’s when Dad told me not to worry about it because the boards looked trashy.I told him I wanted to .I was scared she would get out.He exasperated told me no.He said she wouldn’t .That she had never tried to get out before.I whined again it would just take a minute. He yelled at me "if you don’t get in and wash up for dinner I will bust your butt!"He used a belt!Well I reluctantly did and she was still out there when I checked before bed.The next morning she was gone .They wouldn’t let me stay out of school to look for her!I prayed and hoped all day.I was unable to do or think of anything.I hurried home to look for her .I went to the back yard and called for her…no answer.I then spotted the red clay rectangle back further in the yard.My heart sank .I ran crying into the house already knowing she was dead. She was hit by a truck about two miles away,I was told.My Dad was a great dad other than this time. But I DID hate him for a long time. Now fast forward about 26 years.I am now living with the love of my life (for six years)on 15acres in the country.I WANTED ANOTHER SHELTIE!!!I COULD FINALLY GET ANOTHER!!!So,I went on line looking for a puppy.Sheltie Tales was the first listing I clicked on.I read everything you had on your site. Then I changed my mind because of YOU!I knew your rescues had love and were not as bad off as pound dogs.I searched local pounds(in Tn.)and yeah didnt find any.I looked on craigs list and found one.He was listed as AKC one year old.Must have fenced in yard.He loves kids. The post was from the 16th.It was now the 29th.I just knew they didnt have him anymore…I e-mailed the lady anyway at 4:30AM!I prayed to sleep asking for him(if it was Gods will). She e-mailed me back SHE SAID YES!!!and gave me her number.I called that day(left a message no answer)then twice today.I left a message telling her I thought my phone wasnt working right.Could she please e-mail me back one way or another.I thought I was to late. She called right back telling me they still had him!I then told her point blank"I want him".I told her I didnt have a fenced yard but I wanted him to be inside with us and why.I do have a dog lot.She said she understood and we were welcome to come by.I was giddy! We grabbed a leash and a collar and flew.He was only 30 min. away. They had him in a crate in the garage because the shock collar didnt work to keep him in the yard.It was her 9year old daughters dog.She had bought the dog with her own money. She didnt want him to go but it was the parents decision. She was sick over it.I FELT SOO SORRY FOR HER!!!Her mother had just got a baby teacup pom.and she thought he might hurt it.I told the mom and her I would send pics.and a Christmas card and such and she could call and visit.I hoped that might help the daughter.I meant it…Anyway ,there he was !He was black and white(somehow I had known).Very timid and cowering away.We sat on the floor to make this easier and petted him.I half expected him to bite.He didnt know us…he didnt though.I was figuring he would have some kind of problems.I was wrong. He rode on my lap.We had left the carrier at the house in our haste. He didnt get sick.We got home.He passed by my cats with just a sniff and a wagging tail.He walked without pulling on the leash. We about petted his fur off with loving! He stank so I gave him a warm bath.He didnt even try to jump out.I was surprised that he likes to be brushed. He didnt even turn or snap when I brushed his hind end.He didnt beg when we ate. I put the plates in the sink. Then gave him a pork chop bite as reward. He loves kids.He went out and right away did #1 & #2.I put towels in this wire crate for him for the night.I turned around and he was laying in it.He did try to chew on Chris’s shoe.He low voice said nooooooo. He quickly jumped up on the couch and ran behind me .Looking from behind me with those eyes Chris just had to laugh!I couldn’t ask for a better dog.I just cant believe how good he is!!!Anyway, thank you!!!If it wasnt for you all at Sheltie Tales I would of gotten a puppy.A puppy I would be teaching those things to now.Because of you I found my" could not ask for a better dog"dog!!! And being AKC intact we might of saved him from a puppy mill or other bad home.I just cant seem to thank you enough…THANKYOU<THANKYOU<THANKYOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Britt.

Congratulations Britt and I’m relieved you were able to find a darling sheltie after so many years. That was a sad story. You neglected to tell us “his” name.
Please get him neutered and don’t trust him off leash for a while yet, shelties spook and then they are off running before you know it! Let us know how we can help.
We hope you are planning on having him neutered so he lives a good long healthy life and get his teeth checked at the same time! Just a suggestion
