SHELTIE RESCUE OF UTAH IS NOW A 501(c)(3) CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION

Sorry for shouting in the headline for this post, but this has been a very, very long time in coming. Some of you know that we tried a few years ago and the IRS lost our application — twice ! What with being discouraged by that, plus our rather over-full lives, we didn’t get around to the massive job of producing and filing another application for a long time.

About 18 months ago, Barbara told me that she’d found somebody over in Denver with experience who might be able to help. About 12 or 13 months ago, the person was able to get started, but then her life got really complicated and everything stalled. In February of this year, Barbara finally decided that she’d just have to do it herself…again.

She worked like the proverbial horse for several weeks, filling out the forms, getting all of the supporting documentation in place, working through the financials, and who knows what else. Near the very end, I got involved enough to help her put all of the documentation into the right sequence and read through it as a reviewer. But she did it.

On 13 March, she officially submitted the application. Today, I was going through a pile of envelopes on her desk looking for something completely unrelated and found an envelope from the IRS. Wondering if they were hassling us about our taxes or something, I opened it. And, there, in black and white, was this letter that started off "We are pleased to inform you…"!!!!!
