Your Grateful Support Is Needed and Appreciated

Hello All Appreciated Supporters’ of Sheltie Rescue of Utah!

Today is the beginning of a new Shelter+ Challenge – May 17, 2010 through August 22, 2010 – there are TWO ways for Sheltie Rescue of Utah to receive grant money this time around.  FRIST WAY:  Its easy all you have to do is:  VOTE for us every day at www.theanimalrescuesite.com and we could win $10,000 to help our Sheltie’s in need.  SECOND WAY is the + of the Challenge:  we need for you to submit to us your most heartwarming story about one of your SHELTIE RESCUE’S.  Each month we are eligible for a $1,000 grant for this story, so please don’t be shy, send us your stories.  Either by email or post it here on our site, then we will submit it for our opportunity to win the monthly grant of $1,000.

Here are some details for the challenge: The Animal Rescue Site is hosting a special challenge for eligible Petfinder.com member shelter and rescue groups. The grand prize is a $10,000 grant, and they will be awarding many other grants to rescue groups with the most votes — a total of $100,000 in grants for animal welfare organizations.

Think how many SHELTIE’S we could help with $10,000!

Help us win! All you have to do is click to help rescued animals, and then vote in The Animal Rescue Site $100,000 Shelter+ Challenge. Both of these actions are absolutely free! You can vote once a day, every day, from May 17th through August 22nd, 2010. Every time you vote, or tell a friend to vote, you are making a huge difference for us.

Vote today!

  • Voted.  Will try to remember to do that every day.  I don’t have a rescue story…but I hope you get lots of them!

  • Trudy's Mom

I just checked the results of the voting so far, and SRU is next to last of the shelters in Utah, with the bar graph not even seeming to register the votes they’ve receive so far.  :(   As a former Utah resident, (even though my sheltie was adopted fron a rescue in Virginia, they’re not even on the graph for VA, and never asked for votes), I am proudly and happily voting for Sheltie Rescue of Utah because of the great work and effort they ALL make on behalf of shelties.  And after work today, I’m going to contact all my pet loving friends here in Virginia and my family in Indiana & California and the Northwest and ask them to vote, as well!

  • We must be doing something wrong.
As Trudy’s Mom said, SRU is 9th in Utah and our percentage of the Utah votes doesn’t even register. The bar for No More Homeless Pets is the smallest one that will display a percentage, and that’s 0.86% (less than one percent), so SRU’s percentage is even less than that. Let’s be generous and say that SRU’s percentage is 0.7%. The top group, Best Friends Animal Society, has a stunning 84% of all votes!
According to the AKC website, Shelties are #18 in terms of registrations in 2009. Basset Hounds are in 34th place. AKC no longer seems to publish the actual numbers, only the rankings, so we can’t infer anything about how many Shelties were registered versus how many Bassets were registered.
Perhaps more relevantly, we can’t tell whether Bassets are more or less popular in Utah than Shelties. But Utah Friends of Basset Hounds currently has over 5% of votes in Utah. That’s at least 7 times as many votes as Sheltie Rescue of Utah has gotten. Are Utah’s Basset fanciers really that much more numerous than Sheltie fanciers? Or are Utah’s Basset lovers just more diligent about voting? Who knows? (By the way, Best Friends has about 120 times as many votes as SRU!!)
To make me even more frustrated, AKC shows Cairn Terriers as 56th in the registration ranks. And yet the Col. Potter Cairn Rescue Network has the most votes in the USA with nearly 3½% of all votes. Best Friends is in second place nationally, with about 1.9% of all votes. Working the numbers, we see that 84% of Utah votes corresponds roughly with 1.9% of all votes, which is a ratio of about 45 to 1. The Cairn Terrier votes thus correspond to about 1.7 times the total number of votes cast in Utah and about 240 times as many as Sheltie Rescue of Utah.
What are the Cairn Terrier rescue people doing that we aren’t?
